Home Remedies for Pimples Under the Skin

Have you ever had huge pimples under your skin? Most people grow pimples outside their skin. Although this type of pimple is unsightly, they are not as painful as having them under the skin. You may be able to conceal your pimples if they are under your skin, but they are rather painful and can make you feel really uncomfortable. In worse cases, they can grow to be so big that they can make a part of your face look swollen.

Pimples are something all women do not like to have on their wedding day. What I recommend to brides who have pimples on their wedding day is to conceal them with makeup. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not, especially if there are just too many pimples to cover. But pimples especially those under the skin can be easily remedied with some of the ingredients that you can find in your pantry. If you have a wedding coming up and are dealing with this kind of pimple, you could simply pick from any of these remedies:

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Swabbing apple cider vinegar over your blemish may do the trick. After swabbing, don’t rinse off the vinegar immediately. Let it stay for about 10 minutes before rinsing. Do this twice a day. This remedy is only applicable for one or two pimples. Don’t make the mistake of applying undiluted vinegar all over your face because the acid in it might burn your face and could worsen your problem.

2. Lemon Juice

Instead of apple cider vinegar, you could use fresh lemon juice instead. Do not rinse it, but let it stay overnight and then rinse in the morning. Remember that applying lemon can make your skin sensitive to the sun so be sure to just do it at night and don’t forget to rinse in the morning.

3. Mustard

You could also apply mustard over your pimple. Be sure to read the label and look for salicylic acid as an ingredient. Mustard is also rich in omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, vitamin C, and other components that are suitable for your skin. Leave it for about 15 minutes and then rinse. As a substitute to mustard sauce, you could also use a mixture of 1/8 teaspoon mustard powder and one teaspoon honey.

4. Green Tea

Prepare some strong green tea and then freeze it into ice cubes. Rub the cube over the area with pimples for several minutes for as long as you can hold the cube. Green tea has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that are good for your skin.

5. Tomato

Tomatoes are rich in antioxidant properties and can also act as skin astringent. Cut open a tomato and then rub the cut part directly over the pimple. Let it stay for about 10 minutes then rinse. Do it once or twice a day only, since excessive application may cause dryness to the skin.

Unlike skin tear, scabs and other skin problems that may be difficult to treat, pimples are more manageable. Before your wedding or other special occasion is coming up, you may still have time to get rid of your pimples with some of the ingredients we listed here.

What Is Pleural Effusion and When to Call your Doctor?

Who would like to be sick on their wedding day? Certainly, all couples would like to be on top of their health during this joyous occasion. That is why many soon-to-be-weds exercise caution in all their activities to avoid accidents or getting sick prior to their event.

However, there are certain illnesses that could just strike anytime without prior notice. One of them is pleural effusion. By itself, it is not something you should worry about because it may simply go away unnoticed. But there are cases when it needs treatment to avoid complications.

Pleural effusion refers to the abnormal buildup of fluid in lungs. There are several factors that can cause pleural effusion such as heart problems, pneumonia, liver disease, kidney problems, respiratory disease, autoimmune disease, and several other conditions. Aside from these diseases, pleural effusion may also result from outside factors such as stress, smoking, using illegal drugs, inhaling toxins like ammonia and other home cleaning agents, a near-drowning experience, and being constantly in high altitudes.

Pleural effusion is caused by an underlying sickness and is something you cannot avoid. What you can avoid are those outside factors. Don’t be so stressed out about your wedding preparations to avoid health risk complications including liquid buildup in the lungs. When you are hands-on on your wedding preparations, be sure to have a wedding coordinator who will absorb the pressure and stress. Also, avoid exposure to toxins when preparing your decoration. If you smoke, try to limit it because stress plus smoking can lower your immune system and put you at risk with various health problems.

More often, less serious pleural effusion does not manifest noticeable symptoms. But in some cases where the condition is more severe, several symptoms might be noticeable such as chest pain, shortness of breath, cough and fever. If you start noticing any of these symptoms and you know that you had any of the underlying conditions or have been exposed to outside factors, it is important for you to see your doctor immediately. Aside from these symptoms, your doctor might also perform a series of physical examinations or may request you to undergo certain tests to confirm the diagnosis.

Once diagnosed that you have fluid buildup in the lungs, there might be a need to give you oxygen to aid in breathing. Your doctor may also recommend certain medications that can restore normal breathing. If you like natural remedies, you could also use natural antihistamine that can be found in various herbs and pantry ingredients such as garlic.

Prevention is always worth more than all kinds of cure or treatments. It is possible to avoid pleural effusion and other health problems that may affect you while your wedding day is coming. In all stages of wedding preparation, your health should always be your top priority. Don’t compromise on your health by too much stress and busyness. After all, what is the use of all your preparations if your wedding cannot push through because you are in the hospital due to sickness?

Basic Grooming for Dogs

Dogs especially poodle mixes like Yorkie poodle are now gaining in popularity in wedding and photo shoots. Many pet owners would like to give their dogs a special role on their wedding day such as being the ring bearer or flower girl. I have witnessed this in a number of occasions when I planned weddings before. If you are considering this unique concept, it is important that you know about pet grooming which is needed for this special occasion.

You like your dog to smell good on that special day and bathing is the most basic grooming method you should do.

Bathing dogs is generally done once every month, but it will not harm your dog if you bath it once a week. When bathing your dog, use a shampoo that is intended for them. If your veterinarian recommends a specific shampoo for your dog depending on its coat and skin, then use that shampoo and follow any special instructions for bathing.

When to Seek Medical Attention for a Gum Problem

If you are going to get married in a few days, getting sick or injured is something you want to avoid. You don’t want to ruin the most important day of your life just because you cannot walk down the aisle due to a sprain or foot injury. Similarly, you don’t like bothered during your big day because of a tooth or gum pain.

Sometime ago on one of the weddings I was organizing, the bride experienced extreme pain in her gums. In fact, when I checked it, the upper gum was really swollen. And it was not there the day before. She still managed to finish the ceremony until the reception and pretended as if she was not feeling the pain. But I knew she just endured it so that her wedding will be a success.

Every time I think about that awkward situation, I always thought I wished I was able to help her during that moment. But I don’t know anything about pain relief for painful gums. What I know is tooth pain relief.

When people think about dental wellness, most of the attention is on preventing cavities and making sure that their teeth are healthy. But caring for the gums is just as important. And a painful gum may just feel as painful as a toothache. So if you are doing your best to avoid a toothache, you should also do your best to avoid gum problems.

It is estimated that over three-fourths of Americans age 35 and above have or had periodontal disease, otherwise known as gum disease. While most of these patients suffer from a less severe form of gum disease called gingivitis, around five to 15 percent suffer from a more serious condition called periodontitis.

One of the common causes of gingivitis is the lack of proper dental hygiene. When a person does not brush her teeth thoroughly after eating, this promotes bacterial growth in the mouth. Some of these bacteria may cause gums to become inflamed, resulting to bleeding or swollen gums. So, if you always forget to brush amidst your busyness, or worst, always sleep without brushing your teeth, you are at risk of developing gum disease.

dentistFortunately for those with gingivitis, this condition is not really painful and it is also treatable. Be sure to see your dentist and start with proper oral hygiene. However, if you continue on with poor oral hygiene, your condition might worsen and could possibly advance into periodontitis, or it may cause you to lose your teeth.

Some of the symptoms of gingivitis to watch out for include shifting or loose teeth, bad taste in the mouth, persistent bad breath, bleeding gums during and after brushing, receding gums, tender gums, and red or swollen gums. You should also carefully observe if your teeth start to form deep pockets in between, or if there are changes in the way your teeth bites. These are serious symptoms of a gum disease that needs immediate medical attention.

How to Let Your Dog Participate on Your Wedding

One of the most exciting realities about planning a wedding is that you get to experiment with different concepts that can make the entire celebration unique and more memorable. And I just love unusual concepts such as letting the bride ride on a horse-drawn carriage than in a bridal car, or getting your dog to be the ring bearer instead of a child.

Nowadays, there is an increasing popularity of having dogs in wedding ceremonies. Many pet owners who consider their dogs as part of the family are willing to train them to perform important roles in their weddings such as being part of the entourage as the ring or flower bearer. In most cases, when a dog is present in the wedding, it becomes a memorable occasion for everyone.

If you are looking into the possibility of also including your dog in your wedding ceremony, there are several important factors that you should take into consideration. Add these to your checklist:

Dog’s Personality

If you were able to train your pet to be sociable, obedient and well-behaved around other people, then you will have no problem in training your pet for a specific role in the wedding. Most breeds of dogs can be trained for this. But I find a teacup Pomeranian as among the cutest dogs for weddings. But you should know that even well-trained dogs can be overwhelmed by a big crowd, causing them to misbehave unexpectedly.

Confirm if Dogs Are Allowed in the Facility

You don’t like to show up in your wedding with a dog as a flower girl or ring bearer only to be informed that dogs are not allowed in the facility. Be sure to confirm this first before even considering giving your dog a role in the wedding.

Hiring a Pet Sitter

During your wedding, you will be busy with entertaining guests among other things, and you may not be able to look after your dog before, during or after the ceremony. It would be good to hire a pet sitter who will serve as your dog’s companion and guide on what to do during that time.

Inform Your Guests

Inform your guests through your wedding invitation or wedding website that you will have a dog present during the ceremony. This information can be helpful for guests with allergies so that they can prepare accordingly.

Pet’s Health

At least one week before the wedding, bring your pet to the veterinarian for a checkup to ensure that it is in good health. Be sure that it is not suffering from dog ear infection(more info here), skin diseases, or any other serious illnesses; otherwise you may have to pursue an alternative plan.

Inform Your Photographer

Request your photographer in advance to capture your dog in action. It is a rare and unique opportunity for you and your dog, and it would be good to have your best moments captured.

While many facilities may allow dogs in wedding ceremonies, some locations may not. If that is your case, you may instead just have your dog present during the photo shoots. That way, your dog can still be a part of the special occasion.

Causes of Unexplained Bruising on Children

boo booAs a mother myself, it worries me to see bruises on my children. All the more if I have no idea what causes them. I am just glad that when I asked our paediatrician about those bruises, she says that it is sometimes normal for children to have them especially if they are very active.

Bruises are bluish-purple spots you see on your child’s skin, which turn into a yellow- greenish or brown color days after and lasting about a week or two. These spots are caused by damaged blood vessels bleeding under the skin.

There are many things that can cause bruises on children. Now, should unexplained bruising concern us parents? Here are some causes that we need to look into(http://www.unexplainedbruising.net):

1. Falls, Bumps & Injuries – These are common causes of bruises on children. Kids, in general, are very active. My kids love to climb trees, run around playing ball, tag or hide-and-seek that accidental stumbling or bumping into things are likely bound to happen. There would be instances when I would notice a bruise and ask them about it, and they don’t even remember. All they know was they were having a great time playing! So, how would we know if it is something serious?

Bruises from accidents like these are usually located at the shin, legs, knees or oftentimes, the forehead. As long as the bruise is flat and not larger than a size of a quarter, we have nothing to worry about.

2. Physical Abuse -These kinds of bruises are a serious problem that needs attention. If the bruises are severe and are on unusual locations such as the back, the neck, upper arms, buttocks, thighs, ears, face or even in the genitalia, or has a distinct mark or shape, like a hanger, a belt, or a stick, then your child might be physically abused. It is important to call the attention of authorities immediately for this case.

3. Other underlying health conditions – if your child has had unexplained bruising more often than he or she normally had before, it is best to consult your doctor. It could be a symptom of an underlying illness such as leukemia, hemophilia, Vitamin K deficiency, Von Willebrand disease, cancer or other related conditions.

Though bruises eventually heal up on their own, they would heal more quickly and reduce the swelling with the help of an ice or any bag of frozen vegetable wrapped in a clean cloth and placing it over the bruise. After two days, apply hot compress two to three times a day for 10 minutes. Taking medications like Ibuprofen or aspirin can worsen and prolong the clot.

Children will always like to play. It’s in their nature. They would always enjoy running, jumping, climbing and discovering things. Therefore, it is up to us, as parents, to take some precautionary measures such as advising your child to slow down and always be careful. Also keep an eye on them while playing. If you have a child who has the tendency to keep falling, let him or her use some elbow and knee pads and a helmet when playing sports. Remember, safety comes first. So keep safe!

Basic Care and Health Management for People with Neutropenia

I have known a few people with neutropenia. Some of them I have met during my career as a wedding coordinator while others are ordinary friends. Over the years, I became more aware of the vulnerable health of neutropenic people and I promised myself to help them as much as I can.

Neutropenia is a condition that could affect even a completely healthy person. Neutropenic patients have white blood cells that are lower than normal which make them prone to infections and contracting airborne diseases. That is because white blood cells are considered to be the body’s defense mechanism which protects us from harmful bacteria, viruses and microorganisms.

Basic care for people with neutropenia depends on the duration and severity of the condition. If the patient also suffers from fever and other infections, these complications require separate treatment. Surgery is not normally an option buy it may be employed in some cases.

The initial step to the healthcare of neutropenic patients involves strict observance of neutropenic precautions. These are practices that reduce a person’s exposure to possible sources of infections like uncooked or unsanitary foods, dirty environment, and improper oral and personal hygiene. Your doctor will normally give you instructions on the necessary precautions that must be observed within a certain period of time.

Aside from basic healthcare, some patients may have to undergo antibiotic therapy to fight off infections. This type of treatment normally entails the use of third-generation cephalosporins such as cefepime and ceftazidime or their equivalent. For patients who appear septic or unstable, aminoglycoside medications are also normally administered.  Aside from these common antibiotics, other types of antibiotics may also be given to a patient depending on his condition. Antibiotics could be given through injection or orally.

Other medical procedures that can aid neutropenic patients include corticosteroid therapy which is considered to be an effective treatment for immune-mediated neutropenic cases. If the condition is caused by nutritional deficiency like folic acid or cobalamin deficiency, the patient will also be given added supplements to correct the deficiency.

For relatives and medical professionals who care for neutropenic patients, there are also certain procedures that must be observed to avoid spreading infection. One is careful hand-washing before and after contacting the patient.  Medical practitioners must also avoid administering invasive maneuvers such as urinary catheters that violate the natural barriers of the body which fight infections. If caring for the patient at home, strict dietary precautions must be observed. Relatives of a neutropenic person should also list down and carefully follow the right foods and wrong foods for neutropenic people.

People with neutropenia can easily recover from their condition with support from medical professionals and people around them. If you have a family member who is neutropenic, it is important that you should know the basic care and treatment for this condition. You can find a lot of resources online that can help you properly care and feed neutropenic patients. I have just mentioned some of the basic things you need to know. It is also important that you do your research by asking your doctor and reading other resources.
